General Motors ranked as one of the 2020 World’s Most Ethical Companies, according to The Ethisphere Institute. GM is singular in the honor, standing as the only automaker in the world to earn a spot on the list and one of just four companies representing the auto industry.
In order to determine the World’s Most Ethical Companies, the Ethisphere Institute reviews companies based on the following categories: Leadership and Reputation, Governance, Corporate Citizenship and Responsibility, Ethics and Compliance Program, and Culture of Ethics. In total, 132 companies representing 21 countries and 51 industries made the list for 2020.
The Ethisphere Institute recognized GM for its “Vision Zero” — a future with zero emissions, zero crashes, and zero congestion. GM CEO Mary Barra says that the goal with Vision Zero is to lead the industry and do it with integrity.
“This recognition as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies is a testament to the men and women of General Motors who are committed to doing the right thing, even when it’s hard,” Barra says.
GM has come a long way in spearheading sustainability goals. It has the goal of sourcing all of its global electricity from renewables by 2040. It also plans on recycling 100 percent of EV batteries. By 2030, it hopes to use at least 50 percent sustainable materials in all products.
